Why wind and storm claims get underpaid
The first estimate on a wind claim often repairs a few panels or shingles instead of replacing a roof that can’t be matched. Outbuildings, carports, gutters, siding and interior water damage get missed. Tear-off, decking, code items, steep and high charges, and overhead and profit are easy to undercount when the carrier writes the scope by itself.
Real Farmland-area claims we have handled
These are summaries from CMA claim files. Names, addresses and claim details are left out to protect our clients. Every claim is different, and past results do not guarantee a future outcome.
2021 wind damage to a metal roof
The insurer’s estimate missed the carport roof and did not replace the damaged metal roofing. We measured the carport and the damaged rear section and wrote a new estimate with full metal roof replacement, extra tear-off, code-required decking and steep charges.
Result: The estimate went from $10,361 to $37,904 with overhead and profit, an increase of $27,543. The insurer’s replacement cost payments on this same claim came to $32,018, part of that estimate, not on top of it.
What we do on a Farmland wind or storm claim
- Inspect the whole property (roof, siding, gutters, outbuildings and interior) and document the wind, hail and water damage.
- Write our own Xactimate estimate and compare it line by line with the insurer’s.
- Measure every roof slope and structure, including carports and detached buildings.
- Check matching, code-required items and ordinance-and-law coverage.
- Negotiate with the carrier and, when needed, invoke appraisal.
How we get paid
There is no upfront fee. We are paid a percentage of what the claim pays, under a written contract you sign before we start. If we do not think we can add value, we will tell you.
