Charleston, SC Public Adjuster: A $5,000 Hurricane Wind Estimate Raised to $18,747
This one was not a fire. After Hurricane Dorian brought wind and rain to Charleston in September 2019, a homeowner’s insurance estimate came in at $5,000 in replacement cost, with only $850 actually payable after depreciation. Claim Management Adjusters (CMA) documented the full damage and negotiated it with the carrier. Small claims matter too.

A real Charleston claim we handled
This is a summary from a CMA claim file. Names, addresses and claim details are left out to protect our client. Every claim is different, and past results do not guarantee a future outcome.
September 2019 hurricane wind and water damage
Wind damaged the roof shingles, soffit, fascia and vinyl siding, and water leaked through the ceilings. We inspected the home and wrote a full estimate with a diagram and photos. The carrier’s reviewer accepted all of our interior items but wanted to replace only two shingles and re-attach the soffit. We answered point by point, compromised where it made sense (replacing the damaged east slope instead of the whole roof, and resetting the soffit), and held firm on the fascia and siding damage around the house.
Result: The claim was paid at $18,747 in replacement-cost value, about 3.7 times the insurer’s $5,000 estimate.

- Inspect the roof, siding, soffit, fascia and interior for wind and water damage.
- Write our own estimate with a diagram and photos.
- Answer the insurer’s reviewer point by point.
- Push for payment and follow through until the check arrives.
